Today, students continued to worked on their fairy tale projects, which are due at the end of this week. This is an in-class assignment that has helped to cement the plot diagram, dialogue and literary elements in the minds of our eighth graders. Students also visited the library today to check out our new class novel, "Warriors Don't Cry" by Melba Patillo Beals. Students should have their novel in class with them daily. ![]() Monday, May 10Today, students practiced solving analogies and recognizing their relating factors. Students then met in their literature circle groups for discussion about their first reading. They were given a handout that describes how to create a double entry log for their reading. After their first meeting, students were to write a reflection about their thoughts and attitudes towards their new book, as well as make connections to other books or life experiences of their own. For their next group meeting, students are to have a double entry log prepared. A sample was provided in the handout. Extra credit is online and is due on Wednesday of this week.
Don't forget: volunteer hours (20) are due this Friday for all 8th graders. ![]() Friday, May 7 Today, students reviewed vocabulary for their Reading SOL through many activities including a note taker, a game and stations. I want to thank all of my students and their parents for the encouraging cards and gifts during teacher appreciation week.
